Russian internet firm Yandex hit by major cyber attack: Report – ET CISO
MOSCOW: Russian giant Yandex said on Wednesday it had been hit by a that the Vedomosti daily reported was largest in the history of the Russian segment of the internet, citing sources in the company.
The so-called distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, in which hackers attempt to flood a network with unusually high volumes of data traffic in order to paralyse it, is still ongoing, one of Vedomosti’s sources said.
U.S. cybersecurity firm, which is widely used by businesses and other organisations to help defend against DDoS attacks, confirmed the scale of the attack, Vedomosti reported.
“There was indeed a DDoS attack on Yandex, which was repelled by our network infrastructure and the system for filtering unwanted requests,” Yandex said in a statement to Reuters.
“The attack did not impact the work of services and user data was not affected.”
